After starting with a round of cocktails, John and Jen shared a salad, followed by a fish entree. She was even seen feeding him a vegetable off her fork. As for the conversation — led by Jen’s step mom, who was much chattier than Jen’s dad — it ranged from music to… Tom Hanks.
“John spent a lot of time talking about his music philosophies — why certain decades have better music,” says the eyewitness. “He discussed his experiences with Aretha Franklin and made a joke about Tom Hanks.” His nerves showed when Jen hit the powder room. John charmingly asked the table: “How am I doing?” Then cracked, “I am a wreck.” Everyone laughed and Jen’s stepmom, whom Jen referred to as “mom” throughout dinner, said, “Should we get our score cards out? Like on Dancing With the Stars?” John replied: “Exactly. It feels like Dancing with the Stars.”
When Jen returned, her stepmom outed John for being nervous and told Jen that he said it felt like he’s on an audition for Dancing with the Stars. Jen laughed and rubbed his thigh.

Afterward, everyone retired to the parlor for figgy pudding and a ribald game of Charades where young Master Mayer imitated the operation of the new horseless carriage. Huzzah!

On Thursday, the New York Times ran a pretty unflattering piece about Angelina Jolie and her calculating way of leveraging coverage of herself.

The article asserts that she struck a deal with People: baby photos in exchange for a $14 million donation the Jolie-Pitt foundation and a promise of favorable coverage of all of Angelina’s charity work around the world. The article also says Angelina got away from unflattering coverage post Brad and Jen’s split by taking a trip to Pakistan and making sure the media picked that up instead. It paints her as a conniving manipulator going so far as to set up photo ops playing with Maddox and tip off the paparazzi. Leona Lewis says she gets “very lonely”.

British singing sensation Leona - who reached number one in the UK and US singles charts with her second single ‘Bleeding Love’ - says despite her newfound celebrity status, she still feels isolated.

Leona, who won TV talent show ‘The X Factor’ in 2006, said: “It can be very lonely. Particularly in Los Angeles. When I was making my first album ‘Spirit’ it was really, really lonely because it was just me and an A and R [Artist and Repertoire] guy.

“Because of the time difference, you’re in a different mindset when you’re talking to people. I’d talk to people late at night Los Angeles time and they were just waking up so would be a bit tired.”

Leona, 23, also revealed despite her continued global success and being lauded by stars worldwide, she is still convinced she will wake up one day to find the fairytale is over.

She added to Britain’s Daily Mail newspaper: “I get scared of things not panning out the way I want them to. I wonder what I’d do if anything happened to my voice. I must be one of the most paranoid people I know. I’ll miss nights out because I can’t be talking over loud music. I get panicked in case something happens.”

Leona’s debut album ‘Spirit’ was reissued this week and includes bonus tracks.

The Hollywood Reporter is saying today that Mitch Hurwitz and Ron Howard are “reportedly closing deals for the long-gestating project from Imagine and Fox Searchlight.”

E! Online’s Watch With Kristin is going a step further to confirm that without a doubt, the “Arrested Development movie will happen.” However! There is apparently some behind-the-scenes drama already, since “one of the show’s original cast members has not signed on to the movie.” Kristin continues, “The good news is that aside from this actor (who, sorry, cannot be named), I’m told that all of the other main cast members have committed to be a part of the big-screen project.” That utterly sucks about the one “holdout,” though maybe he or she will come around? Fingers (and hooks!) crossed!

I have never have been a fan of Jennifer Aniston, something about the unwillingness to change her style, the blandness, and her neediness.

This look is surprisingly casual for Janet Jackson, for such an event, as she does like to dress up on the red carpet.

She wears a black shirt with a Donna Karan Spring 2008 voluminous skirt, Fendi bow heels and black hat with a cream trim, whilst carrying an Alexander McQueen clutch.

Some highlights:

On needing love in her life:
‘Do I need men? I don’t think it’s about needing men. It’s about love. Everybody needs love. Everyone deserves it.”

On being naïve in believing that her marriage to Ryan Phillippe would last forever:
“I wasn’t good about protecting myself. I spent a lot of my 20s just trying to make other people happy, rather than trying to figure out if doing that made me happy.”

On their divorce:
“There are things in my life that are hard to reconcile, like divorce. Sometimes it is very difficult to make sense of how it could possibly happen. Laying blame is so easy. I don’t have time for hate or negativity in my life. There’s no room for it. When you make wrong choices, you have to take responsibility for them: ‘What part of this do I own?’ I struggle to figure out what made me make those choices. All I can hope for is that I’ve learned something from it and won’t make the same choices again.”

On her decision to take an active roll in charities that help children and abused women, like the Avon Foundation and Save the Children:
“It’s not acceptable in this country that one in six children lives below the poverty line. People have to get back to really taking care of one another.”

On being a young woman in Hollywood:
“It takes perseverance and determination for any young woman to navigate the movie business. It’s deeply offensive when they are objectified, treated like sex toys. It’s so easy to get attention early on in your career when you promote only the sexual side of yourself. It gains you popularity, but it doesn’t mean anything. Five years later, no one knows your name, and you wonder why. Trust me, I’ve had my moments. I’m like a junkyard dog. I’d say, ‘Why are they asking me to wear a bikini?’ I get tough, because I see the slippery slope. I’ve heard the way roles are cast. There are a lot of women who don’t respect themselves and hurt themselves. I grew up knowing strong women who value who you are and what you contribute to life.” This sense of strength still helps Reese today.

On turning 30 and finding herself:
“Turning 30 was really big for me. I can get really stuck on ‘I don’t like this or that about myself.’ I’ve found that the only thing that breaks that for me is being able to spend time alone, going to the movies by myself or going to art museums alone. I do that a lot. I’ve discovered the importance of even 15 or 30 minutes a day where it is just me.”

On raising her kids, Ava and Deacon, with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe:
“My ex-husband is very involved in raising our beautiful children. We’re very lucky because we both grew up in working families in middle America. We’re on the same page that way. When we’re with our children, we’re very good about checking ourselves. I’m teaching the children what we were taught growing up—a real set of rules, discipline, and love. Children thrive with a sense of structure, and they’re frightened without it. The ways you behave, how you speak to other people—those things don’t leave you.”

On her views of marriage following her divorce:
“Family is all we have in life, but I don’t know how I feel about marriage. Obviously, I’m not far enough out of being married to think about doing it again. You sort of reconstitute your family. You find a family, with people who come into your life for a reason. I definitely still have a capacity to love. Someone said to me once, ‘No matter what breakup you went through or what new love you find—the love you remember, like the love you now value, is yours. Whatever love you once gave to somebody else, it doesn’t go away. Even if it is only remembered love, it belongs to you.’ Things change, but your ability to love remains intact. Oh, I have a lot of hope for love! I do!”
